Set up only while parked
Choose settings, select a vehicle and start recording before moving, while safely and legally parked. Put the phone in a secure mount or away. If anything needs attention, a passenger may handle lawful interactions; otherwise find a safe legal place to stop and park. A red light, traffic queue or motorway shoulder is not permission to handle the phone.
Speed limits are limits, not goals
Never accelerate to influence a metric, heat map, maximum speed, average speed, reaction or social post. The posted limit is the maximum permitted in suitable conditions, not a safe target in every situation. Slow down for visibility, surface, weather, traffic, pedestrians, animals and the limitations of your vehicle and experience.
No racing or comparisons
Do not organise or join street races, timed runs, convoys that obstruct traffic, drifting, speed attempts or competitive driving through Schpin. Likes and drive statistics reflect a shared memory, not driving skill. Report content that encourages illegal or dangerous behaviour.
Check every route yourself
Before travelling, check official closures, weather, flooding, access, vehicle restrictions and local advice. Turn around or choose another route if a road is private, closed, flooded, icy, damaged, obstructed or feels unsafe. Never follow an app into danger or trespass.
Protect vulnerable road users
Give appropriate time, space and priority to pedestrians, children, cyclists, motorcyclists, horse riders, road workers, emergency responders, wildlife and people with disabilities. Avoid unnecessary noise, revving, repeated passes and disruption to residents or rural communities.
Fitness and vehicle condition
Never drive while impaired by alcohol, drugs, medication, fatigue, illness, emotion or distraction. Use a roadworthy, legally compliant and properly insured vehicle. Secure passengers, animals and equipment and follow all licence restrictions.
Collisions, breakdowns and emergencies
Schpin is not an emergency or breakdown service. Prioritise life and legal duties over saving a recording. Stop only where safe, warn others where appropriate, follow collision-reporting requirements and contact the relevant emergency or recovery service. In the UK, use 999 or 112 for an emergency.
Privacy is part of safety
Routes can reveal homes, workplaces, routines and vehicle locations. Use private visibility by default, consider endpoint privacy, avoid naming vulnerable people or private locations, and obtain permission before adding passengers. Do not use Schpin to track, intimidate or expose another person.
